Herbie Hancock

Herbie Hancock– Living Legend, Reshaping the Future with Music

“Creativity and artistic endeavors have a mission that goes far beyond just making music for the sake of music.”
-Herbie Hancock

The Artist:

Herbie Hancock has revolutionized jazz music in countless ways over a career that has spanned across decades and generations. His elite status in the school of modern improvisation as well as popular music has brought him widespread acclaim from a vast and diverse audience. This 14-time Grammy award winner has used his music to entertain, inspire, and educate music lovers everywhere, building a solid place for jazz and improvisation to continue its development into the modern age.

Over his impressive career, Hancock has worked with a number of other iconic musicians, but perhaps the most influential of these was the great Miles Davis. He was recognized by Davis as a rare and rising talent and was offered a position with the Miles Davis quintet in 1963. During that time Hancock found his true voice on the piano and let it sing passionately. Since becoming an established artist, Hancock has pushed the genres of jazz and R&B forward, incorporating electronic instruments into his music and mixing styles from multiple genres to develop his signature sound. In addition to winning Grammy awards in three separate decades, Herbie also won an Academy Award in 1986, for the Original Soundtrack to the film Round Midnight.

Aside from modernizing jazz, Herbie is also passionate about making the world a better place. His spiritual life follows that of a Buddhist and with that belief comes the spirit of giving selflessly to the world. His wife and daughter share the same passion and frequently travel to Africa to help those in need. Some of Hancock’s more recent efforts include spearheading a campaign to support the Shriners Children’s Hospital network through a series of concerts. He is currently involved with several academic and community-focused institutions as well, including the Thelonius Monk Institute For Jazz, for which he is acting chairman, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, for which he serves as Creative Chair. Herbie’s latest release, The Imagine Project, features guest appearances by Dave Matthews, Jeff Beck, Anoushka Shankar, John Legend, Seal, Chaka Khan, Pink, and K’Naan.

The Song:

Imagine – Herbie Hancock feat. P!nk, Seal, India.Arie, Jeff Beck, Konono No. 1, and Oumou Sangare

“It is hard to imagine that I could find anything more inspiring than the musicianship of Herbie Hancock, but I have: Herbie, the mann. Not only is he a humanitarian and international figure of the highest level, inspiring Time Magazine to name him Man of the Year last year and the UN to bestow on him the honor of Goodwill Ambassador last week, but he is one of the kindest, coolest, and most collected artists and human beings I have ever known..”
